Turkish red oils from Fauth.
Turkish red oils, often referred to as sulphated or sulphonated castor oils analogously to the English language name, are obtained by the action (sulphation/sulphonation) of fuming sulphuric acid or sulphur trioxide from castor oil and thus contain castor oil sulphate or sulphonate. The clear, brown-yellow to dark red liquid, an anionic surfactant, is mainly used in the textile industry as a dyeing aid, as well as for washing or preparation for bleaching because of its excellent wetting properties and its emulsifying ability, it is also used in the tyre industry, in electroplating, in the soap industry and in the production of printing chemicals. The sulphonated fatty acids are considered the most effective components of Turkish red oils and their content is used to distinguish the individual qualities. 50%, 70% and 100% Turkish red oils are standard, other concentrations are available on request.
In addition to the types commonly neutralised with sodium hydroxide in the industry, Fauth also offers a quality neutralised with potassium hydroxide, which avoids the electrochemical anomaly of sodium.
